RIISS00054 Traffic Controller Skill Set

People required to control traffic with a stop-slow bat must undertake training to become an authorised traffic controller. This traffic controller training course allows you to stop and slow traffic as required. Whilst the general public refer to controllers as lollipop operators, the responsibilities of these key people are greater than most realise.

This traffic controller training course allows you to stop and slow traffic as required. Whilst the general public refer to controllers as lollipop operators, the responsibilities of these key people are greater than most realise.

Cost

Course fee:   $300

inclusive of 90-day SafeWork of Completion certificate, Statement of Attainment, and SafeWork NSW Traffic Control Work Training Card

On-site final assessment :   $70

On-site final assessment with a SafeWork NSW Accredited Assessor (if an employer testimonial CAN BE completed).

Participants MUST provide a completed and signed employer testimonial, 

2 x Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), 

2 x Road Occupancy Licence (ROL)/Permit, 

2 x logbook entries, 

2 x Traffic Guidance Scheme (TGS), 

all documents must be for two (2) different work shifts.

On-site three assessment:  $150

On-site assessment with a SafeWork NSW Accredited Assessor (if the employer testimonial CANNOT be completed)

* All documentation must comply with SafeWork NSW requirements.

Be a minimum of 17 years of age 100 points of Identification

 


 

Roads and Maritime Services Assessment Requirements

Assessments are to be completed as per the RII Resources and Infrastructure training package requirements, hereby all units of competency must be assessed on-the-job on a minimum of three (3) separate occasions. Assessments will include:

Theory questionnaires

On-the-job practical assessment and observation (by an SafeWork NSW Accredited Assessor)

Provision of workplace samples and documentation (completed and signed employer testimonial, 3 x Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), 3 x Road Occupancy Licence (ROL)/Permit, 3 x logbook entries, 3 x Traffic control Plans (TCP)

RIIWHS201D Work Safely and Follow WHS Policies and Procedures

RIICOM201D Communicate in the Workplace

RIIWHS206 Control traffic with portable traffic control devices and temporary traffic signs

Volume Of Learning

New Workers, and Existing Industry Workers who have not previously completed the RIISS00054 Traffic Controller Skill Set:

Pre-course: 2 hours

Classroom: 6 hours

Practical Training: 2 hours

Assessment Onsite: onsite assessment to be completed by working on two (3) worksites with the final work site to be supervised by a SafeWork NSW approved trainer/assessor

Recognition Of Prior Learning

Trans-Plant Training Pty Ltd offer an assessment only pathway for the competency RIISS00054 Traffic Controller Skill Set. RPL will not be offered to any participant until the competency RIISS00044 Work Zone Traffic Control – Traffic Controller Skill Set is up for renewal.

Locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

Demonstrates completion of controlling traffic with a stop/ slow bat that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than three (3) occasions.

Directing and controlling Pedestrian & Vehicle traffic

Communicating to drivers and pedestrians clearly using hand signals

Using approved communication devices such as handheld radiosor phones totransmitmessage andreport of offenders

Identifying communication strategies and systems

Operating communications systems and equipment to convey meaning to others

Communicate clearly and promptly to others

Interpreting other communications method’s including but not limitedtoosuch as flags,lights, signs,bellsandwhistles(ifrequired)

Identifying and reporting communication faults and deficiencies

Sourcing,interpreting,clarifyingandapplyingsitesafetyinformation

Carrying out work instructions that complies with WHS policies and procedures

Selecting, wearing and caring for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Identify and report on WHS issues to appropriate personnel

Recognising and following procedures to respond to alarms

Working with a Safe Work Method Statement for traffic control

Working safely at night

Managing fatigue and hydration

Identifying and managing environmental issues on site

Identifying situations where additional traffic controllers may be used

Comply with State/Territory regulations on three separate live traffic projects

THIS COURSE DOES NOT QUALIFY A PARTICIPANT TO SET UP, WORK WITH, DESIGN, OR MODIFY TRAFFIC CONTROL PLANS, TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT PLANS, OR TRAFFIC CONTROL GUIDANCE SCHEMES

On successful completion of RIISS00054 Traffic Controller Skill Set, participants will be issued with a Statement of Attainment by Trans-Plant Training Pty Ltd, and a SafeWork NSW Traffic Control Work Training Card, issued by SafeWork NSW
