Food Safety Supervisor course (also known as FSS course) is designed to provide you with all the skills and knowledge needed to be a successful Food Safety Supervisor.

The NSW Food Act 2003 was introduced as a measure for reducing food borne illnesses within the hospitality and retail food industry by improving food handler skills and knowledge. The NSW Food Safety Regulations stipulate that hospitality businesses in NSW need to have a designated Food Safety Supervisor within their organisation. The Food Safety Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that their premises engage in best practices regarding safe food handling.

TP Training is approved by NSW Food Authority and accredited by the Australian Skills and Quality Authority (ASQA) to provide food businesses with high quality Food Safety Supervisor training. This training course is also nationally recognised.

Legislation requires refresher Food Safety Supervisor training every five (5) years.

Course Description

The NSW Food Authority’s FSS program was established to help reduce foodborne illness in the hospitality and retail food service sectors in NSW by improving food handler skills and knowledge.

This course is designed for supervisors to understand the requirements around handling food safely and knowing how to supervise other staff to do the same. Staff who want to be a Food Safety Supervisor will learn how to best manage OH&S in the kitchen and ensure strict procedures are in place so that all food served is safe to eat. This course should be completed by people in the Hospitality and retail food service industry who want a course that provides them with knowledge that is directly transferable to their workplace.

  • SITXFSA002 Participate in safe food handling practices
Entry Requirements

Participants must

  • Provide one form of photo I.D. (e.g. Passport, Australian driver’s licence, proof of age card)
  • Provide Unique Student Identifier (USI) number
  • Complete TP Training Language, Literacy and Numeracy assessment

This Food Safety Supervisor course combines plain English, videos, photos, and questioning to ensure all learners are able to have the best possible chance at comprehending the required knowledge and skills. Attendance

Participants should arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled starting time of the course to complete the necessary enrolment paperwork.

If participants arrive 15 minutes after the scheduled starting time, entry to the course will be refused.

Training & Assessments

Food Safety Supervisor course covers food safety-related topics including food safety program, safe food storage and preparation, provide safe single use items, cleaning and sanitising practices, safe egg handling and allergen management.

FSS training course consists of PowerPoint presentation, class activities, videos and end-of-the-day assessment.

Throughout the day students will complete a multiple choice, case studies and short answer-based assessment which will confirm the knowledge and skills that have been achieved to demonstrate competency across the units.

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive:

A nationally recognised Statement of Attainment (SOA) issued by TP Training listing all the units of competency included in this training course NSW Food Safety Supervisor certificate issued by NSW Food Authority
