RIISS00044 Work Zone Traffic Control - Traffic Controller Skill Set

People required to control traffic with a stop-slow bat must undertake training to become an authorised traffic controller. This traffic controller training course allows you to stop and slow traffic as required. Whilst the general public refer to controllers as lollipop operators, the responsibilities of these key people are greater than most realise.

    Roads and Maritime Services Assessment Requirements Assessments are to be completed as per the RII Resources and Infrastructure training package requirements, whereby all units of competency must be assessed on-the-job on a minimum of three (3) separate occasions. Assessments will include:
    • Theory questionnaires
    • On-the-job practical and observation (by a RMS Accredited Assessor)
    • Provision of workplace samples and documentation
    Topics Covered
    • Locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures
    • Demonstrates completion of controlling traffic with a stop/ slow bat that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than three (3) occasions
    • Understand stopping sight distances
    • Reading and interpreting the work instructions and planning work activities accordingly
    • Directing and controlling Pedestrian & Vehicle traffic
    • Communicating to drivers and pedestrians clearly using hand signals
    • Using approved communication devices such as hand held radios or phones to transmit message and report of offenders
    • Identifying communication strategies and systems
    • Operating communications systems and equipment to convey meaning to others
    • Communicate clearly and promptly to others
    • Interpreting other communications such as flags, lights, signs, bells and whistles
    • Identifying and reporting communication faults and deficiencies
    • Sourcing, interpreting, clarifying and applying site safety information
    • Carrying out work instructions that complies with WHS policies and procedures

    RIISS00041 Work Zone Traffic Control - Implement Traffic Control Guidance Plan Skill Set

    This traffic control training course is designed for personnel who are required to set up traffic control, traffic management, and traffic guidance schemes within a worksite. Implementation of a traffic management plan allows the qualification holder to deploy a work site, monitor traffic control and safety of the worksite personnel, and remove signs and devices at the completion of work.

    RIISS00045 Work Zone Traffic Control Guidance Plan - Developer Skill Set

    This training course provides comprehensive information to assist engineers, project managers, and plan designers who are engaged in the preparation of work zone traffic management, to inspect traffic control plans, to select and modify a standard plan, or to design site specific plans. This work zone traffic management course covers all the key elements of any traffic management plan.
